Although the day started off cool & damp the atmosphere at this recently opened business was anything but, in fact the reception we all received from the staff was definitely bright & sunny. Nothing was too much trouble for these people; the EMMA stand was placed right beside the shop door whilst the Manic-Motorz.com stand was positioned along the front of the business units.

The SPL contest got under way late morning with over a dozen competitors deciding to take part. As all entry fees were being given to charity this was to be a fun event, no trouble for Ken the EMMA MC (AKA DJ Sugarlips).
He was ready to entertain the crowds with his unique banter & certainly kept the crowd occupied as the competitors got their cars into position & made their set-up choices ready for the testing. The competitors were allowed two separate runs, with time in between to make any changes or adjustments they required.

As an extra bit of fun it was decided to give everyone a chance to try “Outlaw SPL”.
In this run the competitor is given a totally free choice as to where they wished the mike to be positioned. This is the part of the event that a well-known person from the local SPL scene turned out to be very useful. Gary McCarroll, better known for his 168.5dB concrete filled Metro, was on hand, volunteering to sit inside these vehicles & hold the SPL mike whilst we took some readings. This man obviously doesn’t know the meaning of fear, as he spent quite some time inside the cars, most doing well over 140dB, with the loudest being recorded @ 152db.

To fill in the short wait before prize giving it was decided that we should try an impromptu “Who can shout/Scream the loudest” contest this involved Ken having to chase around the crowd getting suitable “volunteers”.
Several well-known people had a go, Stuarty Patrick managed 159dB, John Dempster scored 160.6dB but had to retire early & have a sit down as he claimed that it was making him “See Stars”. One of the girls managed a very impressive & ear splitting scream that measured 161.6db.

Prizes:

Show ‘n shine Winner was Michael McCabe in a Yellow MG ZR

Best modified Winner was James Jennings in a Honda civic coupe

Loudest Car Winner was Paul “Jaffa” Jefferies with a score of 151.8dB

All money raised on the day went to cancer research; we are currently awaiting a final figure however James @ Carnology expects it to be well in excess of £1,000.

So thanks to everyone who attended, competed & contributed.
